In this short clip. Josh Kimerling, co-founder of Cousins Sportswear gives a quick overview of their line and the ideas behind the business he started with, you guessed it, his cousin. This chat comes courtesy of GetFreshTVBlog and we’ve transcribed it out for you.
Cousins Sportwear melds current fashion with what you will recognize as hip, classic fashions in a sports context. Good stuff. Let’s get right to it.
What’s going on, everybody? This Josh Kimerling with Cousins Sportswear. I’m here at the world famous 4U House of Fitted Caps. We are delivering our crew neck delivery, and this is our little fantastical crew for embroidery. Satin sleeves. Number on the back. A very different look to it. Another one of our key pieces. Cobras. Leather sleeves, patch on the sleeves, embroidered patch, tumbled number on the back, very nice soft fleece, pockets… we call them belly pockets. Quality piece.
Well, Cousins brand is a, it’s kind of, we take sportswear concepts and infusing contemporary fashion into it. So we’re taking classic silhouettes, or like a team concept to it, and then playing around with the fabrics and doing, like, you know, things that are kind of on trend in the moment, right now. A lot of people are doing leather, so we’re infusing that into our designs. But as each season goes we’re going to change things up and do it differently, pretty much as we see it.
The brand itself is me and my cousin, hence the name Cousin. But, you know, it was kind of a fun thing that we came up with. We didn’t want to do a typical streetwear line because I’ve been there, I’ve done that already and we wanted to do something a little more cut and sew, a little more high end. And I’m pretty happy with the results. We launched tank tops during the summer. We did an event here for you and we’re hoping to follow that same success that we had in the summer and you, know, get fresh.
If you hop over to their website, I think you’ll see what I mean. Really cool takes on jerseys of all types, plus tanks and headwear. Very stylish.
Anthonyxdoe does a pretty in depth review, but we’re going to jump in a minute or so into it so we can get right down to business. Here goes.
Ok, the first piece is this singlet tank top. I think it’s called the Gucci tank top because of the Gucci-inspired red and green stripes here. And, I’ll probably do some close up shots. But this is actually a pretty nice simple tank. It’s actually an off white color base and the middle patches here have got this crown and a wreath and the world Continentals on it. The lettering Continentals and the wreath are this felt material, and the red and green strips are screen printed on.
And also at the back at the top its got the embroidered Cousins brand here as well. It’s really pretty good quality. I got a size large in this and I’d say it fits pretty true to size. But if you want it to be a bit slim fitting, a bit more closer to your body, I’d go true to size. I’m a true medium. I’m actually between a medium and a large but I went with a large on this. Their clothing has lots of patches on older clothing, so as you can see, at the back they’ve got that script branding at the top. And also on the bottom left hand corner they’ve got this patch that says “friends of the program.”
Next up is a football jersey, and it’s the All Bad jersey in basically all black. So it says “All Bad” here, it’s basically more like a screen print. But this patch up here, the rose and the leaves, it’s all felt. The front is pretty simple, it just all black, and it’s got it’s own patch at the bottom which is pretty dope. The jersey is all mesh.
On the back it’s got this felt blank space across the back where I think you put a custom name there if you want. It also says 13 on the back and the 13 is in all felt as well. All in all it’s pretty high quality, pretty decent material. There’s some felt on there. So for sizing purposes I’d recommend going up on size if you want an oversized feel. This at the moment I got a size M and it fits me more like a normal t-shirt, whereas with jerseys you might want to go up on size to get that oversize effect.
Pretty solid review there with a lot of detail. Make sure to check back later for more reviews, interviews and discounts.
